Science after Noon: D wie «Datenkompetenz». Das ABCD des 21. Jahrhunderts

What should, may, will and can I do with data? And what not? These questions are at the heart of data literacy. As a key skill of the 21st century, it enables people to find their way through the flood of data and to critically assess data-based technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and use them appropriately. The alphabet (ABC) is the basic prerequisite for being able to read and write. In the 21st century, however, we need an ABCD with a “D for data literacy”.

At this event on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 13:15 to 14:00, learn first-hand from the initiators and authors of the charter how it serves as a common orientation framework for the promotion of data literacy and how it is intended to initiate a socially broad-based cultural change in the handling of data.

The panelists:

  • Diego Kuonen, co-initiator, co-author and Professor of Data Science at the University of Geneva
  • Monique Lehky Hagen, co-initiator, co-author and President of the Valais Medical Association
  • Manuel Kugler, co-author and head of the AI program at the Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences SATW
  • Marcel Tanner, President of Emeritus a+ and Director Emeritus Swiss TPH

The discussion will be moderated by Olivia Denk and Tizian Zumthurm, co-authors and members of the Open Science working group of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences.

After light refreshments, two workshops on the topics of “Data Literacy & AI Literacy” (with Diego Kuonen and Manuel Kugler) and “Data Literacy in Healthcare” (Monique Lehky Hagen and Marcel Tanner) will take place from 14:30 to 15:45. The panel can also be joined online, the workshops will only take place on site.
