SATW’s work complements that of the research funding institutions, universities and associations. It authors fundamental studies on innovativeness and economically relevant technical issues, coordinates efforts at the national level and initiates practical research networks. These efforts are important for maintaining innovativeness, since applied research in Switzerland is hardly supported at all by public funds, unlike in many other industrialized countries. With its expertise, it offers politicians and the public accurate, objective information and identifies opportunities for Switzerland as a business location.
