Switzerland strengthens scientific cooperation with Israel

Marcel Tanner, President of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences, and his Israeli counterpart, David Harel, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the House of the Academies in Bern. It aims to promote scientific cooperation between Switzerland and Israel and to encourage exchanges between the two Academies.

The signing took place in the presence of high-ranking guests: Ifat Reshef, Israel's ambassador to Bern, Roberta Breiter, a director of the European Committee of the Weizmann Institute, Jacques Ducrest, ambassador and head of SERI’s International Relations Division, as well as SNSF Director Angelika Kalt.

The Memorandum of Understanding is the result of Marcel Tanner's visit to Israel in October 2022 at the invitation of the Academy there and is part of an intense science policy exchange between the two countries. Last April, State Secretary Martina Hirayama visited Israel, and in August Israel's President Yitzchak Herzog and Federal President Ignazio Cassis signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the national research funding agencies.
