Science after Noon: From Tweets to Findings: The Challenges of Data Access for Scientific Studies on Online Platforms

What are the efforts of platforms like X and Instagram to empower the research community? With the Digital Service Act (DSA), the European Union has laid the foundations for a new modus operandi to get access. In total, 17 online platforms like Amazon were designated as "very large online platforms" (VLOPs), and two search engines like Google were designated as "very large online search engines".

With a focus on Social Media platforms, we will discuss the needs of researchers to analyze platform data and the progress to get access. The talk will also include the Swiss perspective and international developments. The following questions will be addressed: Is Twitter's shift to "X" the end of usage for academic research? How are the social media platforms developing as a tool for academic research?

We will happily welcome you to the event at the House of Academies or via Zoom.

Time: 13:15 - 14:15 Uhr
